Ammonia

Acta has developed, patented and produced precious metal free catalyst and systems for dissociating ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen at low temperature, that can be burned into internal combustion engines or used in fuel cells, designed for automotive applications.

Ammonia is the ideal hydrogen vector for large transportation applications and could replace gasoline for a carbon free, renewable motoring.

There is more hydrogen in liquid ammonia at 9bar pressure, than liquefied hydrogen or hydrogen compressed at 900bar.

The ideal fuel for vehicles should:

  • Be renewable
  • Be liquid at room temperature and low pressure for ease of handling
  • Contain no carbon
  • Leave no combustion residues
  • Cheap in cost
  • Producible at gasoline volumes

Ammonia perfectly meets these requirements and is a cheap, scalable, sustainable fuel.

Acta already supplies the catalyst to research bodies and is developing within a few EU and Italian funded projects the construction of ammonia powered vehicles and ammonia dissociation reactors.
